Sims 3 Generations

I just recently bought the Sims 3 Expansion Bundle on amazon(I do not own the original Sims 3) and when trying to download it it said you need to download the Sims 3. So my question is do I have to buy the original Sims 3 or not? If no how do I get it to download?

exspanion and stuff packs even store items from the sims 3 site do need the the sims 3 base game a.k.a. as the normal one to work and play which will cost about $20 from origin at the moment

unless you can contact  amazon for a refund due to you won't be able to install or play without the base game :/
