Sims 3 Crashes/Freezes in Create a Sim

I installed the Sims 3 base game onto my computer, but it freezes/crashes after I'm in Create a Sim for a couple minutes. I own three expansion packs, but I haven't installed them due to this issue. I have no custom content downloaded. I tried to do a Live Chat, but the wait time is taking ages. How do I fix this issue? I only have a limited time to return my games, so I need this resolved ASAP.
