Sent Sims to University, Wrong Sim Appeared

I sent my sim to university. Once the University town loaded, a completely different sim appeared (a sim that I had created ages ago, and is the great-great-great-great-great (you get the idea) grandmother to my current sim.

Now I'm stuck with this old sim. I have no way to select my current sim. I cannot send this old sim back to the town to see if my current family is even there. When I load up the sims, the only family I can select to play now is this old sim. I have zero clue what happened but it's a major glitch.

Did you already try the .backup file to revert to before you sent anyone to university?
