That stupid message is a bug on Origin: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-3-Into-the-Future/IMPORTANT-DLC-Compatibility-Alert/m-p/1694095
Do you still have the code from the DVD version ? My code on Origin doesn't work either, the DVD one does. So try that one instead of the one in i. It seems to me that the codes that were assigned to Origin if you bought the game pre-Origin are faulty.
If all fails, contact a customer support game advisor for a new code

Is it a windows with Sims on it that asks for your code or an Origin one ? If it's the later, you really should not need to enter the code again.
From what you write, I assume the game itself is showing up fine in Origin ? Is it asking for the code when clicking on download or what happens ?

It is the sims installation window one, the one with piccys of the characters, not an origin one. My machine was formatted, so I had to reinstall everything. I do have all the original CD's with their codes, unfortunatly island paradise got cracked in the very center thus affecting playback, so I needed to use the origin version...which requires the origin version of the base game. I was putting in the code given when you click the "i" on the library of games I own.
So..the game is downloaded but wont install as it rejects the code on installation
