My Sims 3 children are glitching!

When my sims have a baby they glitch and you cannot see the baby/the baby is just a tangle of elongated bodyparts, when the baby ages up you cannot see it/ it is still mutated looking and its image doesn't stay consistent or look normal. I don't know what to do and it's totally ruining my game play. HELP!
