Like many people, I have been having the Disc Authentication Failure notification, preventing me from playing the Sims 3. I have followed the steps at both of these sites:

and neither have helped. The issue is further compounded by the information being outdated and pertaining to Snow Leopard, rather than Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks.
When I try to launch the Sims 3 from the Origin App, it launches as The Sims 3: Showtime, even though I did not purchase Showtime. Could this be part of the issue?
So far, the assistance provided by the Live Chat has been well-intentioned but ineffective. The wait time is also much longer than stated, and I would rather not waste further time waiting for 'assistance' there, and so I hoped someone here could help. Additionally, if someone could help me to completely uninstall the Sims 3 via Origins on a MacBook Pro so that I could start the process again, that would be greatly appreciated.
