Cannot uninstall The Sims 3

When I try to download The Sims 3 from the Origin app it tells me that it is already installed and I need to uninstall the old version before I can re-install. When I tried to uninstall The Sims 3 I got this message: An error (-5005: 0x80070002) has occurred while running the setup. Please make sure you have finished any previous setup and closed other applications. If the error still occurs, please contact your vendor: Electronic Arts (http://www.TheSims3.com). Can anyone help with this?

Try manually uninstalling the game as described here: https://help.ea.com/article/manually-uninstalling-the-sims-3
