Sims 3 university life problems on Mac

I recently downloaded the Sims 3 university life expansion pack from origin, and not only did it take over 2 hours, but when all was said and done, it wouldn't open! It keeps asking me to install an update, which I did, but then when I click on the play button, the icon pops up in the bottom bar, and then disappears. I tried uninstalling the expansion pack, and when I did, the Sims 3 base game worked! What is the problem with the expansion pack? I reinstalled it etc. But it still pops up as if its about to play, but then goes away..

try running the game from its file directory as admin.

how do i do that? sorry.. im new to mac..

actually, when i go to users and groups on my system preferences, it looks like i am already on admin..when i right click the sims 3 icon, "run as admin" isnt an option :\
