Sims 2 - A required security module cannot be activated

Help please!

I'm using a Windows 10 Dell laptop.

I installed The Sims 2 from Origin and whenever I try to launch it I get the error message "A required security module cannot be activated. This program cannot be executed (8016)." I've tried several things already including uninstalling and re-downloading both Origin and the game, I've gotten a new product code from EA Help, I've run diagnostics and tried to fix the game, and I've tried creating a new local account on my PC. Nothing works!

If you have ideas please let me know!

@RachelLynn334 Could you please try running the game in compatibility mode for Windows XP, Windows 2000 or Windows 7?

Hi Kristi, that was one of the first things that tech support had me try and none of the different Windows systems would run the game. Thanks for the advice though!
