Updates often reset the Confirm Donut Spend so it is wise to check that it is indeen on after every update.
How did you loose the donuts? EA dont usually refund anything but it cant hurt to ask.

Contact EA directly http://help.ea.com/en/contact-us/new/ and ask for a gameadvisor. Same login as the game.
