origin/ea account wont link to my xbox live account, please help

I have tried linking my Xbox Live account with my EA/Origin account for some time now without any luck. I have tried what the threads have suggested - go to add friend and import account there. But that is not an option that is popping up when I go to add a friend on my Origin app. Please help!
