Had the same problem, close out of the game then quit from your home menu. Completely quit the game, then try again, or just unplug your console then plug it back in.

I am having this same problem but with no defenders. It makes me very frustrated that the next game is almost out and there are still problems with this one. I am considering not buying fifa 20.
