I can't help you directly however I am aware that some larger email providers sometimes have a layer of spam detection and interception positioned "above" your inbox which can block incoming emails before they reach your inbox for checking by your "normal" spam filter for sorting into your junk mail area. This can sometimes intercept completely legitimate, but automated, verification or password retrieval emails and prevent them from ever reaching your inbox.
You don't say which provider you used, and you really don't have to, but to check to see if this might be the case you could change to a different email provider or two and see if that different address receives the verification email- if it does then it's likely that your other address has some sort of silent spam filtering in action presorting the email heading towards your inbox.
