Origin Client refuses to go online

★★★ Novice

I bought the "Mass Effect Trilogy" dvd pack.

To install the game I have first to install Origin and then the actual game through it.

Unfortunately Origin refuses to go online. I get the same message box every time I launch Origin  : "DISCONNECTED : CRITICAL UPDATE REQUIRED" , you have been temporarily disconnected in order to apply a critical update. Please restart the Origin client to log back in."

I've tried everything that this site recommends. Antivirus exclusion list, firewall exclusion list, user account control nullification... you name it.

But I'm wondering, if Origin refuses to go online, from where it will install that critical update?

Can anyone help?

EA, can you help?

After hours of tinkering around I finally solved it.

Unfortunately because of not that good coding, the Origin version inside the Mass Effect dvd couldn't communicate with their servers in order to download the latest Origin version.

So I downloaded Origin from the Origin website and that did it!

Re: Origin Client refuses to go online

Have you tried to do the update in safe boot mode?

Make sure to pick the safe boot with network enabled.

Please let us know if it helped.

I just tried it, It took some time to figure out the safe mode for win 8.

Unfortunately nothing changed. Thanks though..

Hi, @akademos79

That's not normal. Perhaps you can try solutions proposed in this link: http://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Complete-Support-Origin-Connection-Issues/m-p/5019298#U501...
