Spore not launching

I am having this problem on my Mac, where when i tried to start spore it kept telling me there were new updates.  If i didn't install updates it wouldn't let me play because 'it had trouble veryifying me' or something which was very frustrating because i only bought it today. after downloading all updates, when i click 'play' spore begins to launch then crashes, can you help?

In my dock it looks like it is trying to launch multiple copies of the game
