Lost game progress, even though I'm connected with google play account

I have my city connected to a google play account but twice in the last couple of days it has lost progress after I've exited. I have lost several golden keys and points in the mayors contest amongst other things. I was really enjoying SimCity but this is super frustrating. Any ideas why this might be happening? I often get a welcome message with my google play account id so I'm fairly sure it's still signed in

I have the same problem, though I am logged in through facebook. Occasionally (and as far as I can tell, randomly), when I open up simcity, it turns out that some of my recent progress has been lost, which is very frustrating!

Not that I know this works... but try doing something that you'd think would 'force' a save. I'd imagine that a sale with a completed purchase via global would ensure a save would need to be made.
Maybe even logging out, then back into Google Play and/or Facebook would force a save.
Even do both... go double Dutch.
