Download - Updates - doesn't work

Download is extremely slow, I am downloading right now from Liechtenstein and it just does not work... it is quite disappointing how EA Team can fail in such routine sutff... More to that, why don´t you just let users decide whether they need your updates OR NOT. I simply don´t see the difference
