Required effect not present

I'm currently trying to complete the corrupted Voss mission on Voss, I'm standing next to the corrupted Voss, clicking on the icon with the crystal but I'm getting a message 'required effect not present' even though there's a corrupted Voss right next to me.

What can I do about this? I can't complete this mission without healing the effected Voss

Not sure havent seen this before 

few things to try though is exit the instance and right click on the character portrait and select reset all active phases then re-enter 

if that fails exit the instance and reset the mission and start it again.

Just to confirm you have tried going to your missions item tab and tried the crystal there

@grainneg This is old but I came across the same issue. I wasn't "left clicking" the voss first.
Left click the voss and then use the crystal, either in the top right of the screen if you have the mission tracker, or in your inventory, or you can assign the mission item to your mod/items bar.

Note: Don't "right" click, that's targetting and they'll just turn sour and fight you
