The Sims 2 compatibility issues with Windows 8

Hello, I recently purchased a new laptop with Windows 8. It is an HP ENVY m6 Entertainment PC. Today, I installed The Sims 2, which I ordered off of Amazon. I had no problem installing the four disk set, but when I was creating my Sim, the game stopped working. When I diagnosed the issue, A pop-up message told me that the game was having compatibility issues with my version of Windows. I turned on compatibility mode for the game, using Windows XP. It did the same thing though, and stopped working in Create a Sim. I tried other compatibility options, like lowering the screen resolution, etc. I don't know what to do. Please help!!

Can you try to patch the game to the latest version? The Sims 2 (original) Patch Help
