The Sims 2 Launcher/Windows 8

Hi everyone:

My desktop went out forcing me to buy a new one running Windows 8.  I'm a long time simmer and although I own all the Sims 3 Games Sims 2 is my favorite.

I own the base game, all EPs/SPs for the Sims 2 and have managed to get it to run up to Bon Voyage.  At that point I keep getting a message that the I need to update my operating system to Windows 98SE or Windows 2000.  Really?  Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't even tried loading TS3 or my Sim city games on here yet.  If TS2 doesn't work, it goes back. That's a deal breaker for me.

Have you already tried to play in Compatibility Mode as explained here?
