What Was the Best One-off NPC Conversation You Had?

If you had to pick one (or feel free to pick many) what do you think was the best written short NPC conversation? (Crew banter aside here - too much of that is good for me to try and choose from.)

I'm thinking the exchange with Paaran Shie's assistant on the Aya dock. The "It has been a long day" exchange had me understanding, sympathizing, laughing, and liking him in four lines.

I liked grilling Addisson about Spender.

I hated speaking with the Angry woman, after my first playthrough I just ignored her, in real life I sometimes have to communicate with people I dislike but in games or the online world, well, I can choose not to engage annoying stupid people who adds little value to my life.

Like 2 banters...  1)   the one with drack asking PeeBee why she paints her face and if she's thinks she's a superhero and she calmly responded drack why do you wear so many dead things on your body do you think yourself a super villain?.  2)  Was a series about Jaal sleeping in the nomad, then started snoring, then Ryder tells Peebee he only does that when she's around!  Thought that was an awesome slap to her face hahaha...   Then there's more, Jaal was sleeping and snoring in the nomad and PeeBee pretends to have sex with ryder making moans and groans, Jaal finally woke up and said ok let me out... Think the other banters ok but I really didnt like Liam's think quite a few of the other crew members cant stand him and they bicker.  Not great for a road trip.

Honestly prefer the Original ME banter and NPC conversations...  Liara with her father.  The blue rose of illum series.  Smuggler in Purgatory.  conversations in the casino, Tali's little flirts...

I'm enjoying the game and I'm in my fourth play through...and I don't remember any conversations. None.

What does that mean?

I'm almost on the same boat, although I barely played once until the end and 2 until Voeld. I ended up getting a template of things I wouldn't pay attention: if it opened 3 options on my left, I wouldn't read. Not after checking that many of our options wouldn't change the game, and I felt like not talking that much and losing time going on and about.

Also, those people we bump: angry woman, hopeful lazy doll and whatever else. No matter was we say, they disappear and nothing seem to happen. Even the angry mod with the Just do it Krogan.

I miss memorable conversations, even the simple ones. One that got my attention was the supply manager at Prodromos, who know Vetra. One of the options make her stutter and ask you to return later. I haven't really prompted a later conversation, but was there anything to it in the end?

I went back 3-4 times, think I was getting close, she kept dodging it... Then I lost patience, forgot abt her and completed the game...

I'll have to look for that then too.Standard smile

The one I'm talking about is only four short lines when you first land on Aya. He's the governor's assistant. You can miss him easy if you don't stop and talk with him before you board with Jaal for the first time. You can talk to him about a few other things but I don't remember what those were.

You: "I bet you weren't expecting to have to deal with a flaming alien ship landing in your city today were you?"

Enroh Bossan: "When I got up this morning I was not expecting to have to deal with.... this."

You: (chuckle) "Good save."

Enroh: "It has been a long day."

What's interesting is this was the first conversation that came to my mind as one of the best.  It initially irritated me also (I went back to a save and replayed it differently to see if I could get a different response and was frustrated that it was the same).  It wasn't until my NG+ run that I really started to appreciate this conversation for the first time, rather than wanting to avoid it.

If I put myself in her shoes, I'd like to think I would never respond like that.  But can I be 100% sure?  Her feelings upon waking up from cryo to a dream completely destroyed were shared by many and was a key factor in the mutiny on the Nexus before your arrival as the Pathfinder.  It's not black and white, and it's a very real, no-holds-barred emotional response.  It might seem hurtful, but a lot of people in real life have said MUCH worse to my face, only to find out later they didn't really mean it and better understand the emotional events that led up to them saying it.

I've come to like this particular very-quick conversation with no background because it does irritate me, while at the same time making me want to really understand better what she is thinking and truly feeling behind the mask of anger.  She could have a horror story to tell that we just don't know, and if we did may not have left the Milky Way ourselves (who knows what she left behind).

Sometimes, the backstory we don't know behind these one-off comments can be as profound as the ones that are fully fleshed out.

So... Angry Woman actually gets my vote as best in the non-crew-banter category.  For crew banter, I really enjoy Cora's war stories...  Standard smile

For me the angry woman conversation just shows how weak and how much of a wuss ryder really is.  His father just sacrificed his life to save his own and when a random nobody cursed at his memory he just had a nice conversation with her?  That's the protagonist that I will need to play for the next 100 hours?  And then it reminds me of how great life was when I was playing Shepard.

i have to admit i enjoyed roasting addison over spender in an open fire-pit far more than i should have. given he nearly destroyed the initiative single-handedly and addison almost let him.

I think what they should have done with this conversation is leave it alone on the Angry Woman side, but give you different options for Ryder's response.  For example, the two options provided are pretty weak.  But, the ability to choose to just completely lay into the woman verbally or flat out punch her dead in the face should be one option.  But the other option should be one of grace and understanding, so that you can truly play how you feel.  My first play through, I would have probably just pulled a Drack bar fight scene with her.  But in my NG+ play though, after thinking it through some more, I probably would have gone the more graceful approach (in real life, I have found that to achieve some very amazing results that just leaves people not knowing what to say next).

But, we all know writing has not exactly been Bioware's best in this one  Standard smile
