Origin freezes up my computer

★★★ Newbie
So I recently tried to install Sims 4 on my computer. After the disc installed and updated Origin, my computer froze. After manually restarting, 10 minutes in it froze again. I'm assuming origin is set to open up as soo. As my computer starts so it ends up freezing within 5 min of me turning my computer back on. What can I do to fix this? Even when I tried to uninstall, the computer froze again.

Please try the steps in the order below:

  1. Do a Clean Boot
  2. Manually uninstall Origin
  3. Run CCleaner
  4. Restart your router/modem and do another Clean Boot
  5. Make sure that your UAC is enabled and set to notify
  6. Download the latest version of Origin and install the client - make sure to run the setup file with Admin rights
  7. Add firewall/antivirus exceptions for Origin and open the needed ports
  8. When starting Origin, please make sure to run it as Administrator

@Etban Could you check if you can run or install Origin without issues while in Safe mode with Networking? You won't be able to play, but this will rule out any issues with conflicting software.

@etban run System File Checker ( Vista, 7, and 8):
-click the Start button.
-type "command" in the search box... DO NOT hit ENTER yet!
-while holding CTRL-Shift on your keyboard, hit ENTER.
-you will be prompted with a permission dialog box.
-click Yes.
-a black box will open with a blinking cursor.
-type "sfc /scannow" and hit ENTER.
-system File Checker will begin scanning for  system file problems (be patient - the system scan may take a while).
NOTE follow the on-screen commands.

Microsoft is constantly updating and improving Windows system files, sometimes resolving your  problems may be as simple as updating Windows with the latest Service Pack or other patch that Microsoft releases on an ongoing basis.

To check for Windows Updates ( Vista, 7, and 8):
-click the Start button.
-type "update" into the search box and hit ENTER.
-the Windows Update dialog box will appear.
NOTE if updates are available, click the Install Updates button.

After you have finished restart your PC.

@Etban Alright that means that there is no software conflicting with Origin, but something else on the systems is going on. Please try the following:

  1. Make sue you have the latest Internet Explorer installed (you don't have to use it, just make sure it is installed)
  2. Make sure your Windows is fully up to date (run Windows update and install all available updates)
  3. Run System File Checker
  4. Reset your Hosts files to default

After this, try installing the client again.

After doing those steps I tried installing again and again it froze.

However the scan stated at the end that there were some corrupted files it could not fix.  Could those be the issue?

Thanks!

It could be, do you know which files were these? Were they Windows files?

It doesn't specify, although it does say that the details are specified in a text file somewhere, I can try to find it if you think that would help
