On startup Need for Speed Rivals is giving me a black screen only whilst full screened. Alt tabbing has it in a windowed screen where things begin to work properly, but any attempt to return to full screen gives the black screen back, but this time with some stuttering sound. Any suggestions?
Already tried:
Disabling additional monitor
Running with administrator privilages
Changing display resolution inside game (got there through windowed mode)
Disabling Crossfire cards

Already had up to date drivers, re-installed for the fun of it, no good.
Origin Re-installed, no good.
Repair install found no problems.
Already tried a fresh windows boot, tried again after these fixes for more fun, no good.
Disabled the firewall even though I managed to do ok in windowed mode, no good.
Time to slam ea support as it looks like alot of AMD card users are having the same problem. Good luck all

Sorter13 - Are you referring to the beta driver: AMD Catalyst™ 13.11 Beta Driver for Windows® ?
The most common reasons for a black screen issue are:
If ever just like Mishkkaa you can launch the game win windowed mode then changing the resolution might help.
Also, if you have not tried yet, please install the Beta driver (link above - Windows 8 users).

Additional information
Need for Speed Rivals crashes when trying to load after the tutorial
Players on Windows 8, when running two AMD 7970 graphics cards with Crossfire functionality, will experience a crash on the loading screen following the Need for Speed Rivals tutorial.
To solve this issue, update to the beta graphics card driver, AMD Catalyst 13.11 Beta V9.2, or simply disable Crossfire and unplug the Crossfire cable to prevent the crash.

I had this problem too and i solved it.
Download this software-
http://gc-modding.googlecode.com/files/WindowedBorderlessGaming_1.1.1.4.zip
run WindowedBorderlessGaming it will appear on the bottom on the screen.
Now run NFS Rivals on windowed screen and tap the icon of WindowedBorderlessGaming and press "add window".. now go back to the game and press F3... it should work on full screen.

Thanks for the help. Yes, I'm currently using the beta driver you linked. But initially was using 13.9.
I can get into windowed mode with ALT+Enter. From there I tried every resolution option, switching to Fullscreen after applying it. Same issue, black screen with sound skipping. Windows says it's all up to date.
It's in another thread here but I've tried:
