Error 500 when uploading an image

My profile image disappeared mysteriously and only displays the standard "helmet". Now, everytime I try to upload a new image in conformity EA rules an Error 500 page pops up, saying that something went wrong. I tried a couple of jpg, gif, png. Always the same result. What's wrong?
