cannot login in on xbox

Tried setting up account on Xbox so that my son could play with his friends on need for speed most wanted. Wouldn't set up account in my sons or my name so set it up on my name on my iPad. Tried logging in on Xbox but still won't let me. Tried to go into my account and connect account to Xbox but there isn't an option to add.
