Unable ot activate the game in Origin

Hello, I bought the game over a month ago in Steam, and it works fine there, but I wanted to also try it on Origin, but when I want to activate the game in my account with the product key provided by Steam, it says the key has already been used. Does that mean I can't use both platforms? I've seen old post in various sites that state it's possible to have the game in both platforms, is it true? Thanks for the help.
