Windows 8.1 and Mavericks Compatibility

As mentioned in the Update 7.5 post http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/9742457.page we have made some changes to ensure SimCity works with Windows 8.1 and Mavericks ahead of their release. Below are some questions that some may have ahead of updating to Windows 8.1 or Mavericks.

The main thing to remember before updating to Windows 8.1 is to check your graphics card has Windows 8.1 compatible drivers from AMD (http://support.amd.com/US/GPUDOWNLOAD/Pages/index.aspx) or nVidia (http://www.geforce.com/drivers

SimCity runs slowly after updating to Windows 8.1 on my ATI 4xxx/nVidia 7xxx machine
During development of Update 8.0, one of our focuses has been on adding compatibility for Windows 8.1. Through this development we have found that ATI 4xxx series and lower or an nVidia 7xxx series and lower may experience slower performance than they currently do with Windows 8. Unfortunately these cards do not currently have official drivers for Windows 8.1 and may not be supported officially with Windows 8.1. We recommend players with these graphics cards that are planning to update to Windows 8.1 contact AMD or nVidia regarding any support plan for Windows 8.1 and your graphics card.

SimCity runs slowly after updating to Windows 8.1
During development of Update 7.5, one of our focuses has been on adding compatibility for Windows 8.1. Through this development we have found that some graphics cards may run at a lower rate of performance than they do under Windows 8. If you experience performance issues after updating to Windows 8.1, try the following steps:
• Ensure you have the latest graphics card drivers from AMD/nVidia – some cards may not have Windows 8.1 launch compatible drivers
• In game, go to Settings>Graphics

o Reduce your Lighting and graphical settings
o Reduce your resolution

Unable to load beyond the front end after updating to Windows 8.1
While testing Update 7.5 against Windows 8.1, we found some instances where some graphic card setups would not load beyond the front end menu screen. If you find this to be the case, try the following:
• Ensure you have the latest graphics card drivers from AMD/nVidia – some cards may not have Windows 8.1 launch compatible drivers
• In Settings>Graphics un-check the FULLSCREEN option
• Reduce graphical and lighting options

Does SimCity support Windows 8.1?
SimCity does not support Windows 8.1 specific features but we have been working on making SimCity compatible with the new version of the Windows OS ahead of its release. Owners of Windows 8.0 do not need to update to Windows 8.1 to continue playing SimCity.

Does SimCity support OSX 10.9 (Mavericks)?
We have been working with Apple to add OSX 10.9 compatibility and issue fixes to SimCity since Mac launch. As OSX 10.9 is not officially released and is still in development there may be additional issues that arise from new Developer Releases, however we will continue to work on support to be compatible at the release of the new Apple OS.
