Do you have Expo center near the station and all your casinos near it aswell?

Do you start events? Where do your tourists go from the station?

I started a casino city where two casinos that were near the entrance, were BOOMING and making assloads of profit. It made no difference. People refused to visit those casinos, even though they were near all the visitor transportation.

Never tried ferry but airport is supposed to deal with high level tourists (or sometimes medium level) so that it has very low capacity anyway - not enough to fill your casino.

And btw spreading the tourist flow is a bad decision - they may go shopping on their way instead of visiting your casinos.

No commercial in this city. It was meant to be dedicated to basic residential and gambling. Besides, that's not very real world. Who in their right mind goes to Las Vegas and gets distracted by the outlet malls, when they came with the intention to gamble and party? The answer is "NOBODY".

Thats it - it is not real world logic. Casino here has very limited attraction radius so you should place it right near transport hubs or city entrance (which is also transport hub). Bus and streetcar stations are not transport hubs in this case. If you place it this way - it will attract tourists from that hub. If it is not profitable - then this particularly hub has not enough tourists coming through it or the casino is not close enough to attract them.

Objects with events has much wider (but still limited) attraction range - so you can use them to determine the tourist flow direction.

Try it in sandbox mode and you will see how crowd is moving on the tourism map...

Thanks for your input.  If Sims are leaving the gambling city because they have spent all their money, what is the best recovery route?  Just build more attractions?

You need the commercial for hotels... The rooms provided by the casinos are not enough on their own. The problem, of course, is that it will first be filled with the things residents don't want to travel for... Food, Shopping, gas stations, etc.. It's a necessary evil. Just be sure you don't place any industrial, or your citizens will never shut up about wanting more of it (industrial tends to pay higher than commercial, so just like in the real world, you get people who move in for that; people who may not be suited to commercial work.)

The best recovery route is just to add expo center or stadium near the casinos - it will guarantee some amount of tourists every day with active event. Thats why these "tourist" buildings are availible without ministry of culture unlike all other tourist attractors. Because they affect gambling aswell, and even your commerce.

Re: Casinos are just loosing money Why?? --My Casinos make money EXCEPT the Elegant Casino

This was the most difficult speclization for me by far.  To even make my casinos profitable I had to do the following:

1. Have a total of 4 cities total linked by either rail or highway or both

2. Construct the international airport (this was a pain by itself)

3. Link all the cities by passenger rail, buses and highway if not already done so

4. Build the Casino city last.  Do not make it overly dense (My population is about 20k) , have low crime and have excellent mass transit around casinos

5. Start with building two seperate Gabling Houses with nice rooms and blackjack tables

6. When they start making money build a Sci-Fi one and so on.

I was able to make money in all the casinos except the 'Elegant' one.  I even have the lodging and gaming upgrades.  The elegant one loses 190k/ per day.  Perhaps I need to get the entertainment option to draw in more tourist.

Re: Casinos are just loosing money Why??

I had this, and the opposite, happen to me with the same casino in my city at different times.  First the casino was pulling in over 13K profit an hour or day, can't remember, from over 1,300 tourists.  My my city showed I actually didn't have any tourists...strange.  A day later, real time not game time, my city showed I had a few thousand tourists but none were going to the casino and absolutely no tourism money coming in.  I haven't bothered playing the game in two or three days now, just checking this forum.

Re: Casinos are just loosing money Why?? --My Casinos make money EXCEPT the Elegant Casino

As for me, I have some experience at this sphere... I had been playing casino games during one year and I earned some money... I can say that it is a very difficult and nervous Job if you decided to earn money by this way... Now I am not a fan of casino but sometimes I can play roulette or slots. However, I prefer free software like this columbus slot. If you guys play for money, it is a really risky :smileywink:
