ME2 needs a reinstall every 3ish hours

★ Novice

Recently bought all the Mass Effect 2 DLC for PC and am doing my upteenth playthrough.

However, every 3 or so hours of gametime difficulty will suddenly revert to Normal, and if I try to change it, it crashes. Game still runs, but any attempt to change the difficulty back to Insanity results in a CTD.

After the first time I've grown wise enough to have a backup on my desktop to copy into the main directory to reset everything, but it's still a rather annoying process.

I did a systematic reinstall the first time this happened too, and can say with very little doubt it is any of my few mods' fault -- from a clean install, installed each mod 1 by 1 with a launch and system edit each time, with no crash.

Anybody else ran into this issue? I'll keep trying to figure out where the fault is whenever it happens and post a solution if I find one.

@TheOssumPossum

Well, it is pretty likely that the Mods are the issue.

If I understand you correctly you already tried the game at vanilla state?

The mod setup is mostly just convenience features so I'm hopeful they're not the guilty party but I've made seperate backups of both a pure vanilla install and my modded setup.
Mods are as follows
-Controller Mod
-ALOT texture pack (just the base version, no addon)
-Shorter Load Times
It's been running for close to 3 hours no issues since last reinstall. With both backups on standby I intend to search all the file paths once it happens again and find what's causing it. I'll post what I find if anything does turn up.
