xbox 360 controller won't work in mass effect 1

I started the game and the game will not recognize the xbox 360 controller that works for every other game I have for pc(fable, fallout new vagas). i have tried unplugging the controller plugging it in again, but this does not work. I also moved the Mass effect 1 folder from my documents to the desktop and this also did not work. \

What should I do

Mass Effect doesn't support controllers on PC.

In fact, the first BioWare game to support controllers on PC since Jade Empire, is Dragon Age Inquisition. Everything in between doesn't support them.

You can, however, use third party tools like Xpadder to make keys to controller input.
