F***ING EA SUPPORT didn't tell me this after 3 calls, my system crashing from uninstalling Origins after they told me. EA SUCKS!
THANK YOU!
Mass Effect the best!

What if you do not have the MassEffectLauncher.exe in any folder location?

Then you need to do this:

The Launcher was deliberately removed by EA and, for an EA/Origin install, is truly not needed.
Truly. Not. Needed.
0. Ensure you have the 1.02 patch applied (absolutely required to run under Win7 or Win8).
1. Disable "Sync with cloud" (at least until everything else is working properly).
2. Set Origin.exe to "Run as administrator".
3. Set MassEffect.exe to run in "WinXP (SP3)" compatibility mode.
4. Close Origin completely (right-click on the icon in the systray and choose "Exit").
--then-
5. Re-start Origin.
6. Go to "My Games".
7. Choose Mass Effect -> Play.

Hi I'm having the same problem with launching mass effect, I bought the three mass effects games in a package. Downloaded them and installed them. ME 2 and 3 seem to work fine. ME 1 will not launch.
I have been around the block here and been on and off the help line with Origin. Believe me when I say i've tried everythng at least twice.
Except uninstalling ME1 which I have done 3 times.
I found a post and downloaded the launcher file from location in you're dropbox and placed it in:
crogramfiles(x86)/origingames/Mass Effect.
Then I downloaded the mass effect update and tried to run it but got an error message the ME was not found and to reinstall it from the original source. Which of course I did to no avail.
I also tried to run it in compatability mode but says it ME is missing a file "ssleay32.dll" which seems to be there in this location;
crogramfiles(x86)/origingames/Mass Effect/binaries/core
i've tried everthing with and with out the launcher file, same results.
Pretty much at my wits end right now, very tired of Origin.
hope someone can help.

hi everyone. I think I found the solution for those who install Mass Effect through Origin.
Yes, I had the same problem as everyone mention, and I read somewhere the simplest solution ( or the first thing you should try) after installing the game.
Go to the folder where you install the game.
C:/ Program files(x86)/Origin Games/Mass Effect/Binaries/
right click on the 'MassEffect' Application
Clik the 'Compatibility' tab
Click Run this program compatibility for (Choose your windows version)
eg: I'm using Windows 7, so you can select what windows version you have.
Click Apply, then Ok.
Try to start your game again. It should work.

Still NOT work.

Lo and Behold, I found a working solution on...wait for it...none other than the Steam forums. Congradulations EA, some of your games may be good but just about every other aspect of your campany sucks.

You know what i tired to follow these instruction to the letter but for me things were not where they were suppose to be. I even chatted with tech support. I have windows 7 64 bit and the game installed a shortcut to my games folder and my desk top. The tech was trying to follow these same instruction to me. I could not find the exe out of the 9 folders. The rep finnally told me to reboot my computer to see if that worked LOL! I think I think she gave up. For me this worked but the Launcher was in the binaries folder of mass effect. I had to open every folder till I found it. For me it was in the binaries folder then i did the step below now its working thank you.
1. Find the MassEffectLauncher.exe file in the Program Files (86)/Origin/Mass Effect folder(for me it was in binaries folder)
2. Right click on MassEffectLauncher.exe and select Properties
3. Click on the compatibility tab
4. Select Windows XP Service Pack 3 compatibility mode and put check marks in:
- Disable visual themes
- Disable desktop composition
- Disable display scaling on high DPI settings
- Run this program as an administrator
5. Click Apply and OK and then double-click on MassEffectLauncher.exe and play the game.
