Numerous ME bugs discussed with staff support.

★★ Novice

Arshad: Thanks for contacting EA Customer Experience, my name is Arshad. How may I assist you today?
you: I believe you're the one who helped me out earlier this evening.
you: I had a problem with Mass Effects ending bug.
you: Correct me if I'm wrong though.
Arshad: Hello!
Arshad: It was another one.
you: Allright, well here's my issue:
Arshad: Its regarding issues with save games.
Arshad: Right
you: A few days ago, I bought the Mass Effect Trilogy pack. I've pretty much played through the first game and there were numerous bugs that were either impossible to solve or had complicated workarounds. On 2 mission for example, a lot of the textures get replaced with pure black, blocky textures that makes it all seem very ugly and impossible to distinguish things from each other. It also doesn't allow you to end the game because it kicks you right to the menu after you defeated the boss instead of being put back in the game.
you: Then to ME2
you: To import a ME1 character, you need to have a completed ME1 savefile. I didn't have that, so I downloaded one that had the most in common with mine.
Arshad: Alright.
you: You are required to use a config that's in the launcher to import the save that you have, but apparently using the config breaks your game and you either have to make complicated .ini edits to fix it or reinstall.
you: I've done some digging and apparently all of these bugs are mostly related specifically to the trilogy pack.
you: Now I'm ok with if a game isn't perfect or there are a few annoying bugs, but these are all gamebreaking ones that are known for quite some time now and it's really frustrating to have spend my money on this.
you: My ideal solution would be to either magically fix all the bugs or to have acces to the individual games (so not in a bundle, but as if they were individually purchased).
Arshad: No need to worry, I'll just check the game with the game specialist team and let you know what's wrong.
you: I've had a talk earlier today about ME's ending and how it was bugged, and I was informed that it was being worked on, but there was no current workaround.
Arshad: Yeah, I can see that.
Arshad: Just checking the game now.
Arshad: Please allow me a moment.
Arshad: Thank you for waiting.
Arshad: Try to move the saved game files onto the desktop and run the game.
Arshad: Load a new game afterwards and try that.
you: Mass Effect 1 is this right?
Arshad: Yes.
you: should i move the save folder or the save game files inside it?
Arshad: No, the whole save folder from Documents to desktop.
you: So start the game with the save file on my desktop and kill the boss again?
Arshad: Yes, we can move the old saves afterwards, I'm just checking if your saved games are not corrupted.
you: well i can only start a new game when the files are on my desktop
you: but that's supposed to happen right
Arshad: Yes, that's what I'm saying.
you: Game is running fine
Arshad: Exit the game and try to load it again and check the same
you: SO just
you: start a new game again?
Arshad: No, save the game and load it again to check if its working fine.
you: Oh alright
Arshad: Alright.
you: It loads just fine
Arshad: Okay, so the new game was good.
Arshad: Right?
you: Correct.
Arshad: Now, delete these game files. Move the old save back in Documents and try to load the game.
you: Loaded just fine
Arshad: Now, try to save it and check one or two times.
Arshad: Check where you were unable to save the game.
you: The point is after the bossfight you can't save, there is a cutscene and the credits roll
you: After the cutscene it's supposed to quicksave and after the credits it should put you back in the game.
Arshad: Yes, please try to save the game at that instance and check the same.
you: Right before the bossfight?
you: Or after?
Arshad: Yeah, can't remember as I played that too long.
you: I have a save right before the fight vs. Saren
you: But Ill kick his **bleep** for the 40th time and see what I can do
Arshad: Surely, and let the autosave happen this time. We'll check it.
you: I always let it happen lol
you: The point is it doesn't happen.
Arshad: lol
Arshad: We'll just check it now.
Arshad: Although its already reported but still I'm trying to find out if its possible so get the new files merged.
Arshad: Have tried this with some other games.
you: Oh **bleep** I died while I was typing
you: So anyway I should just do what I always do right
Arshad: lol
Arshad: Concentrate on the game!
you: I'm at the part of the final conversation option
you: Where you choose the human council member
Arshad: Alright.
you: Emotionalmusic.mp3
Arshad: lol
you: credits are rolling
Arshad: Alright.
you: Im not skipping then
you: them
you: for safety purposes
you: Maybe it screws it up or something
you: I waited before but eh
Arshad: Okay.
you: Aaaaaaand I'm back in the menu again
you: After the credits you see the loading screen so apparently its trying to load the game
you: But for some reason you just get kicked to the menu
Arshad: Hmm...
Arshad: Seems that this is to be reported to the development team.
you: Yeah it was already being worked on.
you: Problem is that this is just one of many problems
Arshad: Yeah, I'll mention the same as you said to compile up.
Arshad: Also, I suggest you to post the same on our official forums and Answer HQ as the development team keep an eye there and you'll get the best possible resolution there.
Arshad: Other players might get the same so they can workout.
you: Is there some easy way to save this conversation??
Arshad: Yes, of course.
Arshad: There should be a button for email transcript.
you: There is
Arshad: Yes, and this chat will be in your inbox.
you: Thanks for helping me so far, but this still leaves me with one problem
you: The fact that I simply can't complete the game.
you: I wonder if there is a way to provide me with a standalone digital copy of the game
you: SInce it seems to be a bundle issue
Arshad: Yes, but at our end it'll show up as individual only as its just the entitlement which is in bundle.
you: Hm.
you: So I suppose there is nothing I can do until the bug is fixed
Arshad: Yeah.
Arshad: I apologize for all the trouble you've been facing with the game.
you: I know it's not your fault.
Arshad: Yeah, but still.
you: It's ok, I might try another kind of workaround.
you: Maybe send my save file to someone else to let him complete it
you: And send it back to me so I can use it in ME1
Arshad: This can be done. I need to check it with the development team. I'll forward this and let them know so they update this.
you: If it's played by someone who has no issues it should def be possible
you: It's a pretty far-fetched workaround but at least it's a workaround
Arshad: Yeah,.
you: I'll post this to the forums and we'll see.
you: I hope the issues get resolved pretty soon.
Arshad: Hoping same for you.
Arshad: Should you have any further questions regarding this or any other issues, please do not hesitate to let us know. You can also find answers to common questions on our Help Center at http://help.ea.com, or ask our community experts by visiting Answer HQ at http://answers.ea.com.
Arshad: Is there anything else I may assist you with today?
you: Not really, thanks for being patient with me and have a good day.
info: Your chat transcript will be sent to [edit: email address removed] at the end of your chat session.
Arshad: Thank you for contacting EA. I appreciate your time. Have a great day.
Arshad: You may feel free to end the chat session by clicking on the "End Chat" button.
Arshad: Enjoy the day!  =)
you: You mean the night
you: Its 3
you: 3:20 AM
Arshad: lol
Arshad: Yes.
you: Well bye
you: Thanks again
Arshad: Goodnight! o/

On 2 mission for example, a lot of the textures get replaced with pure black, blocky textures that makes it all seem very ugly and impossible to distinguish things from each other.

-> This happens when you run the game on an AMD FX processor. This is not a bug, your PC simply doesn't meet the system requirements due to an issue on AMD's end.

You are required to use a config that's in the launcher to import the save that you have, but apparently using the config breaks your game and you either have to make complicated .ini edits to fix it or reinstall.

-> This is the first time I've heard about this. I know that manually editing config files breaks the game if you don't use a mod to repair the ini, but that's a seperate case. Confix.exe doesn't break the game, as far as I'm aware.

I've done some digging and apparently all of these bugs are mostly related specifically to the trilogy pack.

-> The black block issue on Noveria and Feros is in all versions of the game if you have an AMD FX CPU.

The point is after the bossfight you can't save, there is a cutscene and the credits roll

-> There's a final autosave the moment you kill possessed Saren. That's the save that's supposed to be imported. (The council decision doesn't import.)

after the credits it should put you back in the game.

-> Incorrect. After the credits, the game returns to the main menu. There's no next game plus.

Arshad: Also, I suggest you to post the same on our official forums and Answer HQ as the development team keep an eye there and you'll get the best possible resolution there.

-> He's wrong. The BioWare developers don't post here. They're at http://forums.bioware.com but they don't assist with technical issues.

If you have trouble importing and the instructions from this thread don't work, then follow the instructions at the bottom of this page. (Under **UPDATE**)

Hi, thanks for your answer.

I was aware of the fact that the bug was caused by the AMD FX processors but led to believe it was a bundle issue. Seems I'm wrong. However, nowhere in the system requirements is it stated that this is an issue so there is no way for me to know unless someone else told me or I happen to stumble upon it before I play it.

That's the point. There is no final autosave after I kill Saren. It doesn't happen even though it should.

The rest is clear to me. Thanks for replying.

AMD produced the incompatible processors after Mass Effect shipped, which is why there's no mention of this in the system requirements.

I was actually wrong when I said the FX CPUs don't meet the system requirements, since the requirements don't even mention processor types. They should probably change that.
