Mass Effect not launching

Hi there, I have just purchased Mass Effect 1 from Origin and after it installed I tried launching it. Nothing happens whatsoever as if I didn't even click on it. It will open the "Downloading cloud saves window" and close. Then nothing at all will happen. I am running on a Windows 7 PC quite capable of running a game like this...

Update: (Still not solved) I updated mass effect to the latest version using the link given, however I now get an error saying that I cannot connect to the ea servers.
