And the silence on this from all the people who could fix it is awesome...
Personally, I don't care at all for any gaming console. For all I know, given the small number of members actively posting here, there are no experienced console people at hand you can discuss your problems with.
THIS IS NOT OFFICIAL SUPPORT.
This is Gamer to Gamer Tech Discussion, "Self-help". The Official help is in charge of the Game Advisers, who you can ONLY reach by going to the EA Help Center and STAYING there until you connect. Really simple.
No one here can "Fix" ANYTHING. That's not how self-help forums work, sorry.

As goraththeelder said, Answer HQ is a community initiative to have players share their gaming expertise with other players.
But the BioWare QA Team and our Community Manager Team is around and we are reading your posts. I've escalated the issue to the studio and will update this thread as soon as we get new information.
Thanks for all your detailed reports. They are (as always) very helpful.

I'm under the impression that the problem is with Mass Effect 1, not Mass Effect 2.
I will complete Mass Effect 1 and I'll have the option to create a new game+ with the character I've just completed the game with. It seems, however, that once I quit Mass Effect 1 the file is deleted. If I go to Mass Effect 2, it won't find my file to import, and if I re-enter Mass Effect 1, the previous option to play New Game+ has disappeared.
Hope this helps/gives insight.

I had the issue but I had Region 2 downloadable version of ME1 and Region 1 Disc version of ME2.
The issue was solved once I purchased a Region 2 disc version of ME2.
However, I'll answer the questions:
1. I use PS Plus and cloud saving
2. Did not play multiple careers on ME1
3. I completed ME2 prior to the release of the latest patch.
Just out of curiosity, is it possible that some people got mixed region discs in the their Trilogy?
Do the discs themselves have any inscription regarding which region they belong to?

Hi all,
Our first impression indicates that this might be caused by the cloud save functionality.
May I ask you to try the following please:
1.) Disconnect your PS3 from Internet
2.) Load Mass Effect 1 end-game auto-save
3.) Complete Mass Effect 1
4.) Verify New Game + option is available from the start menu
5.) Launch Mass Effect 2
6.) Attempt Import of Mass Effect 1 career
Please let us know if that helps.
Many thanks.
Dennis

Tried this. It didn't work :/
also the New Game+ option is, once again, absent upon exiting and re-entering Mass Effect 1
