I can't play mass effect

I downloaded the game to play after building my new computer a few weeks ago and I hit the play button then the mass effect menu comes up with the play option uninstall and what not. so I hit play again and I get a loading wheel for a few seconds then nothing I have tried disabling my antivirus but it didn't help and closing origin then logging back in, and going offline but nothing is working

HOWEVER.  I've heard one report of someone fixing it with a repair install recently.  That never worked for me, but maybe it would for you?  Alternately, you could skip down to the section on contacting EA (in the above link), get them to issue the new code, and then try the repair install.  Or ignore this and just follow through the above link.  But it's long and annoying, and I would love to cut it down a bit.

My standard troubleshooting steps for "ME1 Won't Start":

0.  Disable "Sync with cloud" (at least until everything else is working.)

1.  Apply the 1.02 patch (required if running under Win7 or Win8.)

2.  Set "MassEffect.exe" to run in "WinXP (SP3) Compatibility Mode".

3.  Set EA/Origin to "Run as Administrator".
