How to use the ConsoleKey in Mass Effect 1

How do i get the ConsoleKey=Tilde to show up in the game. Went to the Bioinput notepad and typed it in where its suppose to go but it wont show up in the game. So how do i trigger this command. I have a windows 8.1 computer if that makes a difference.

On non-US keyboards the tilde key is mapped elsewhere so it may not always work. I believe on international keyboard you can press whichever key is above the tab key.

You could also edit the ini file and use another key to open the console.
