Madden 17 PS4 2 player inop

I can't get a Madden 17 2 player 1v1 game going on PS4. Every time we launch the game the 2nd controller drops.

Not intuitive but I had to assign one controller to a PS4 user and the 2nd controller to another PS4 user before launching Madden 17. Then both controllers work in the "Play Now" mode.

When I go to play 2 player it drops the other controller

I am having this issue also, but can you provide specific step by step guidance on how both can play together? Keeps flipping to the other.
