Why Am I In Some Spectator Mode?

On plants vs zombies garden warfare 2, I decided to do a match of graveyard ops, but was surprised to see that I wasn't actually playing. Instead I was spawned underneath the map, and had free range of everything. I could be watch my teammates fight, and I could watch the super boss cut sene, but no attacking. It obviously wasn't something not meant to exist because I could still move, but it wasn't meant for me to find. Is this the only time it's happened?

I all ways thought it was people cheating blocking you from joining the game

quiet often I join games where I can free range the camera but trying to look at my team-mates theirs all ways in the skybox

The only time it's happened to me, I respawned back on the map after the wave was through.
