Can someone please tell me what the numeric weapon rankings mean? What's the difference, say, between a Hemlock 5.12 v. Hemlock 9.15?

@DAD28711 Hi, those numbers indicate how much a gun has been used. Once you get past a relatively low level, 10 or so, the numbers are only for cosmetic progression.
For the first few levels that you use a gun you'll earn slots and addon parts to customize your gun, ending in an attachable counter that tracks lifetime kills. Past this you'll just earn skins for the gun.
To break down the naming it shows your gun generation and level. Every 20 levels is a "generation". When you hit max level, the gun goes up a generation and goes back to level 1. Nothing is lost in this process, it's purely cosmetic.
So a Hemlock 5.12 is someone with a generation 5 level 12 rifle, whereas the Hemlock 9.15 is the same gun, but with a lot more use, over 4 generations' worth. The only differences in their performance will be due to whatever addons are used.
There's also a pilot regeneration at level 50, but this does actually have an affect. If you choose to go for it you lose access to items that weren't unlocked with credits, until you reach the appropriate level again. Pilot regeneration is used to unlock later cosmetics.
Thanks for the post, I hope this helps to clear things up.
