Witcher 3 Main Menu is loading indefinitely

Playing Witcher 3 on PC Windows 7. No mods installed. I've been playing successfully for months, but as of today I died in battle. I went to "Load Most Recent Save" but the screen got stuck on the loading wheel. It never loaded my most recent save.

Went to open another game file, but the loading screen was preventing me from doing anything. Force quit. Relaunched the game. Start up is fine until main screen. There's now a "loading" circle in the right hand corner of the screen. As long as that circle is there I cannot click anything. Can't start a new game, can't load a previous save, can't open game options.

What could be causing this?
