Dragon Age Keep is now available!

Within the Dragon Age Keep, you’ll be able to customize a Dragon Age historical world state to your exact specifications drawn from Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II story decisions. These include hero attributes, companion details, quest results, and more. Customize as much or as little as you wish. Then you'll be able to import your saved world state into Dragon Age Inquisition at the start of a new game. For new players, the Keep will serve as a great way to understand the people, places, and events that shaped the world leading up to DAI.

Completely free to use and web-based, the Dragon Age Keep is accessible from any modern browser on your desktop computer, tablet, mobile device and console – no downloads or plug-ins required. Head to dragonagekeep.com and sign in with your Origin account to begin crafting your Tapestry and be ready to step into Dragon Age: Inquisition in November.

Accessing the Keep
The Keep will work on most modern browsers. However, if you’re currently in the beta we do recommend visiting the site using Chrome on your desktop computer for the time being, as it seems to work best there. It is also available on tablet and mobile devices, so you can take the Keep with you on the go for instant world state creation and changes. The Keep requires an internet connection to use, but you don’t have to be online for very long to create your World State and upload it to Dragon Age: Inquisition. Once that’s complete, you can disconnect from the internet and start playing the game.

Importing Saves
Unfortunately the Keep won’t be able to directly import saves. However, over 300 choices are accounted for in the Keep, so you’ll be able to recreate your Dragon Age universe down to the details. The intention is for the Keep to recognize your decisions regardless of  whether you played Dragon Age games or DLCs on different platforms. You do not need to have played DLCs to set any choices on Keep related to them.

Making Choices
You can exert a high level of control over your world state by using the Tapestry feature in the Keep. There will be some context and backstory available to help newcomers or to jog your memory when making a choices, and a warning when one choice is incompatible with others. Not every choice will impact your playthrough of Dragon Age: Inquisition, but the option to pick them all this means we can accommodate importing for future Dragon Age titles. There is also something to be said for faithfully capturing what you did in previous games for the record, regardless of whether that is reflected in a future title.

How to use Dragon Age Keep's Tapestry

Heroes
When you sync your account The Keep will attempt to recognize your Wardens and Hawkes from previous playthroughs so they can be reflected as part of your history, but you won’t be able to edit appearances or customize new characters. Classes, race, gender and origin story are taken into account for your hero. However, specializations are not. As the Keep continues to grow and evolve, it may be something added in the future, but currently its focus is on hero data that impacts the world choices. The site will upload a 2D avatar for your heroes that will appear in your Tapestry.

Playing in your World
The Keep features a World State Manager that allows you to mark a World State for import into Inquisition with the click of a button. When you start a new game in Dragon Age: Inquisition you will then have an option to import from Keep. You can even create and save up multiple world states in the Keep. So for example, if you want to create a Darkest Timeline where everyone dies, you can.

Visiting the Keep is not mandatory before playing Inquisition. There is a default World State in the game that will load if you haven’t exported one from the Keep. But if you would like Inquisition to reflect your existing Dragon Age universe, it is recommended you visit the Keep first.

Once you start playing DA Inquisition, the Keep will track your choices and progress through that game as well. If you are online while playing Dragon Age: Inquisition (or the next time you go online), your story choices will be sent to the Keep and your Tapestry will grow.

Within the Dragon Age Keep, you’ll be able to customize a Dragon Age historical world state to your exact specifications drawn from Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II story decisions. The main tool you'll use to make these choices is known as the Tapestry, where all of your choices are presented in an iconic, illustrated style.

Setting up the Tapestry

  1. Sign into dragonagekeep.com using your Origin account.
  2. After confirming that your Origin account is correct (it should be whichever account you used for DAO and/or DA2), you will be able to sync your data with the Keep.
    • Note: this does not import your game save files, but it does sync your heroes from previous games as well as certain accomplishments and DLC. If you haven't played DAO or DA2, you will be asked to choose and confirm a hero from a set of default heroes.
  3. Once your data is synced and your heroes chosen, you can watch your Dragon Age story so far. At key points in the story you'll be able to make the decisions that shaped your Dragon Age playthroughs. These are the first steps in building your Tapestry, but don't worry, you can change them later if you want.
  4. At any point while watching the story, you can click on the X to skip it and proceed to the Tapestry itself. Once the story has finished, you are ready to view your Tapestry.
Editing the Tapestry

The Tapestry allows you to fine-tune the decisions and events that build up your world state. You can customize as much or as little as you want and the story will still make sense. There are over 300 choices available to you, so it's fine to skip the ones that aren't important to you.
  • The Tapestry is divided into two sections, Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II. You can quickly hop between them using the drop-down at the top of the screen.
  • Within each product, the Tapestry is divided into groups based on theme or plot.
    • Hero: Lets you make decisions that affect your Warden or Champion. If you decide to change your heroes after syncing your data, you can do it here.
    • Companions: Here you can establish your choices regarding the other characters in the story. This includes romance options.
    • Plot: The plot sections let you delve into the events and choices of each chapter in the game.
      • These branching sections often interact with other choices you may have established elsewhere. If at any point in your Tapestry selection you make a choice that is incompatible with another option, the Keep will ask you which one you would like to choose. If you have a choice you absolutely do not want to change, you can lock it using the lock icon underneath it.
    • DLC: These sections let you alter your choices in the DLC quests for each game.
When you're happy with your Tapestry, you can hit the play button to watch your story again, or proceed to saving and importing it.

Saving and Importing to Dragon Age: Inquisition

Once your Tapestry is complete, you can save it and export it to Dragon Age: Inquisition, or share it with your friends.
  1. To view your saved world states, click on the globe icon in the upper right corner. This opens up your profile, which contains the following:
    • Game Slot: This is the file that the Keep will send to Dragon Age: Inquisition for starting a new game.
    • Saved World States: These are the files you have created using the Keep. You can prevent any changes from being made to a World State by locking it with the lock icon.
    • Shared World States: These are the files that others have shared with you. You can download them and use them yourself.
  2. Select the world state you want to play in Inquisition and then select the option to export to DA Inquisition. This will replace whatever is in the Game Slot with a copy of the current file.
  3. When you start up DAI, you will be prompted to import a world state from the Keep, accept this option and you will be able to use this world state.

[INFO] Origin Account Management for DA:I and The Keep

After using the Keep to set up your world state for Dragon Age: Inquisition, you may discover that you have done all the work on the wrong Origin account and have no way to import the world state to your game. This can be worked around by making your two accounts "Friends" and then sharing the world state between accounts.

Here are the full instructions:

  1. Log into Origin from the account you have saved your preferred world state to (old Keep account) and use the "Add Friend" feature to add the account you want to play Dragon Age: Inquisition on (DA:I account) to your friends list.
    • Depending on your settings, you may need to log in on the DA:I account to accept the friend request, please do this before the next step.
  2. Go to https://dragonagekeep.com/ and sign in with the old Keep account.
  3. Click on the globe symbol at the top right of the screen to display a menu containing your saved World States - you may need to click on "Load Additional World States" to see all of them.
  4. Select the World State you want to use. A new window will open, and on that window above the character cards you will see a row of icons.
  5. Click on the one that looks like a picture frame with an arrow coming out of it.
  6. A screen will open giving you the option to add a custom name and description to the world state, and a list of your Origin friends that you can share it with.
  7. Please give the World state a name, then choose the DA:I account from your friends list and click "Share". You will receive confirmation that your world state has been shared.
  8. Log out of the Keep and log back in again on the DA:I account, go to the World States area, and you will see that this World State is now available for you to load in the Keep.
  9. Load it up and then log into the game.

If you have your Keep data on your preferred Origin account but find that your console is using a different Origin account, you can take that console account and update its email address by following this guide: Switching emails from one Origin Account to another.
