Guide: How to Use the D-Pad in Menus with the PS4 Controller [PC Version]

★★ Novice

Hey guys,

I wanted to share my solution for getting the D-Pad working in Dragon Age: Inquisition. I don't know if it's just me, but I'm so used to using the D-Pad to navigate menus in other games, that it was driving me absolutely crazy each time it did nothing!

Step 1: Download DS4Windows

Plug in your PS4 controller to your PC using the standard USB cable it came with. Then, download DS4Windows from here: http://ds4windows.com/. It's a utility that makes your PS4 controller look like an Xbox 360 controller, so Dragon Age recognizes it. DS4Windows is a branch of DS4Tool, and I like it the best out of any I've tried, since it's portable (no install makes it seem slightly less virus-y), and it doesn't have any advertisements.

Before you move on, make sure that you can use your PS4 controller in Dragon Age.

Step 2: Create a profile

Create a new profile for Dragon Age in DS4Windows and assign it to your controller. We'll fill out the profile in the proceeding steps.

Step 3: Rebind the existing D-Pad controls

Astute readers will be thinking... wait a second. Isn't the D-Pad already used in Dragon Age to switch between party members? Why yes it is! We'll need to bind it to something else. Personally, I love using the PS4's touchpad to swipe between party members. So, I just bind "Swipe Up" to "Up Button", and "Swipe Down" to "Down Button". If you like this option, make sure to check "Use Touchpad Swipes For Controls" to enable binding them.

Step 4: Bind the analog stick actions to the D-Pad

Now that we've rebound the D-Pad actions to something else, we can bind the analog stick actions to the D-Pad.

See the screenshot below for an example.

Step 5: Bonus!

While you're at it, you should consider binding the Tactical Cam to a click of the touch pad. Seriously, it feels very satisfying to take command of the battlefield with that giant button. Try it!

That's it! I hope you enjoy that sweet, sweet menu navigation.
