Torque bar problems

Two times now I have constructed a torque bar, placed it in the slot next to the door, turned it with kinesis but the door does not unlock. I would appreciate any ideas as it is driving me insane.

Spent 15 mins on it changing angles, distance, short bursts, long bursts and finally got the door to unlock. Not sure how it worked but it did. A lot of trouble though.
