Get to first save station in Deadspace 2

I know, I know, it's a dumb question, but even dumb questions have answers. I recently reloaded Deadspace 2 after not playing it (or any other games) for a couple of years. I thought I remembered spacebar being Stomp and that's what I had to do to handle that first zombie and reach the save station. But no matter how many times or how fast I hammer that spacebar, the door doesn't close on that dead guy. I've tried other keys and nothing seems to work. I would greatly appreciate help getting past this. Last time I didn't get stuck till I got to that place where I have to jump from one train to another (and it seems like lots of quick spacebar hits solved that). Twenty years ago when I was just in my fifties I remember stuff better. My grandson is coming for Christmas in a couple of weeks and I gotta practice. Guess I'll go work on Crysis 3 for a while.
