Can't trade stars for rainbow stars

When town hall opened today, 5/18/17, I couldn't trade the 190 stars I had for rainbow stars.  It said I can't hold any more and I had 0 rainbow stars in my inventory.  My older brother also had the same problem but he did get a few, 10 one time and got the same can't hold any more, until he used the 10 on a chest then, after doing a few quests, he got another 21 then the message came up again even though neither of us had the allowed 50 rainbow stars.  Doesn't do any good to complete the quests if you can't use the stars.

Update - After new notice of party stickers and new characters to try,  the glitch of not trading stars went away.  Still can't start a game when logging in as a zombie- have to switch to plants before being able to play.
