I am able to log into my Origin account and access my game but when I attempt to join a server to actually play, I receive a message that there is no connection. I am not having any internet issues and can surf the internet just fine.

At first, clear your browser cache and/or try a different browser. Reinstall your webplugins for battlelog. Get sure that you have disabled all ad and application blocking software in your browser and using the latest version of Adobe Flash.
