Stuck on "Joining Server" (PC)

★★ Novice

Hello people,

I have been playing bf4 fine for a few months now but around some time this week, the game would not launch no matter what and it gets stuck on "joining server" on Battlelog.

BF4 can be seen launched in the task manager but it never ever pops up; just stays on" joining server". In order to try joining another server, I have to close bf4 from the task manager, but joining any other server will just cause the same problem. I can't get into a server at all regardless of the amount of times I try joining one. It never goes through to "connecting" or "loading level", like it once did...

I have already googled this issue for days and have done the following: reinstalled origin, try different browsers, reinstall punkbuster manually and update bf4 with the punkassbuster program thing. aswell as other little things ive stumbled across on threads, all to no avail.

I see alot of people playing in the server list so I am beginning to think that i'm just unlucky, it has been like this for days and there wasn't even an update or anything when this issue began; it was fine one day and now it's unplayable. Nothing I have tried works...  A search on the net brings nothing, only a few threads that were posted months ago, with solutions that do not work for me. I MIGHT redownload the whole game again to see if that will solve the problem but that is a trek.  I hope this is just an issue with DICE/EA not my pc; it worked fine before!

If anybody here could provide a suggestion, I would be greatful. Any help is much appreciated; regardless of whether or not it fixes my issue. Standard smile So close to just kissing my 80 dollars goodbye

Error
Game disconnected: could not join server.

Haven't been able to play multiplayer for some time now.

so far I've

reinstalled web plugin

reinstalled punkbuster

Reinstalled battlefield 4

reinstled origin

reinstalled antivirus

reinstalled firewall

turned off antivirus

rurned off firewall

removed antivirus

removed firewall

reset modem

reset router

reset computer

turned off uPnP

turned on uPnP

tired wirless connection

tried wired connection

forwared all ports listed as required for game

I paid for Premium and the Digital Deluxe and have so far, have had the worst experience. Still missing my veteran battlepacks from what.. 3-4 months ago? Not that it matters if I can't even get into the game.

The game was at least working a week back, then all of a sudden, nothing. Not a single thing changed before I started getting the run-a-round with forum posts and a poor CS agent.

Will you at least acknowledge this issue and let us know you are working on it?

Cannot join certain servers

★ Newbie

I try to join a server - [FPSG] 24/7 TDM Silk Road (BigPond Unmetered) - and it opens my BF4 and says joining server and logging in but never says loading level. When it says connecting it stays on that for a while until it stops and says:

ERROR
Game disconnected: could not join server

It does the same thing even if I click on the BF4 application once it is opened.

This is a big problem for me as I have played on this server before and I would like to play on it again. I am also having cloud sync issues at the moment also, which I think could be connected. As of today it seems the cloud sync issues have kinda been resolved but they almost prevented me from playing in previous days.

Any help or solutions would be greatly appreciated and I understand the information I have given you may not be enough and for that I am sorry.

Regards
A friendly BF4 user Confusedmileywink:

Note: You may have tried some of this steps but thy them again, it may work.

Ok, here are some steps you can try that can minimize the occurrence of this problems:

- Uninstall the Plugin (in control panel>uninstall) then delete the containing folder placed in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Battlelog Web Plugins

Fix for Mozilla FireFox:

- Install the latest plugin
- go to Addons (Firefox menu) -> Plugins
- Search for ESN AND Battlelog
- Set both to: always activated
- close firefox, start it again and it should be fine then

For Chrome:

-Clear Browsing Data ( Settings/Privacy )
-Reinstalling the plugin by logging to Battlelog again
-In the search bar typing the following command: chrome://plugins
-Checking the box Always allowed for ESN Sonar API and Battlelog Game Launcher
-Restarting the Browser
-Log back into Battlelog via Origin (Play from Battlefield4 icon )
-Join a Server

For Internet Explorer 11
-Restart IE 11
-From Internet Options/General tab -> Clear Browsing data -> Delete button
-From Security tab, slide the bar to bottom -> Medium Protection
-In Trusted Sites -> .battlefield.com should be added along with battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/ and battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/
-It will require a System Restart in order for the 7 step to be applied.
-Log in again into Battlelog and download again the plugin.
-Join a server.

First, do this steps: http://help.ea.com/en/article/battlefield-4-punkbuster-troubleshooting/

Also, try this additional steps, if the above does not work:

1. Open windows firewall
2. Click advanced settings( on the left) and then inbound (also left)
3. Find PnkbstrA.exe and PnkbstrB.exe (if you have two of both, its fine)
4. Right click on each of them>properties>programs and services
5. Make sure that "all programs that meet the specifications" is checked
6. Then go to the "Advanced" tab and check all 3 boxes. Domain, Private and Public.
7. REMEMBER TO DO THIS FOR ALL PnkBstr Files. Then save and quit.
8. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 4 and delete "Pb" folder.
9. Go to these 2 links:
http://websec.evenbalance.com/downloader/download.php?file=1
http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe
10. Download and install both
11. Run Pbsetup.exe (the first link)
12. Add a game (eg. bf4)
13. Check for updates.

-Reinstall DirectX.
1:go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 4\__Installer\directx\redist
2:Find file named DXSETUP.exe, right lcik and select RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR . Install it. It should update your DirectX install.
3: You might need to reboot computer first.
4: try to launch game.

Still doesn't work then....

-Update your Microsoft .NET framework.
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17851

Make sore your drivers and updated.

Get sure that you have disabled all ad and application blocking software in your browser and using the latest version of Adobe Flash.

For Battlefield on PC, please enable the following online ports on your connection:

TCP80, 443, 9988, 20000-20100, 22990, 17502, 42127
UDP
3659, 14000-14016, 22990-23006, 25200-25300

For specific instructions on how to open your ports, please visit http://www.portforward.com/ or contact your router manufacturer.

Also see this EA Help article for information on opening TCP or UDP ports: http://help.ea.com/en/article/opening-tcp-or-udp-ports-for-connection-issues/

If this helps, please click the white XP button and to give me some XP.
If this solves your question, click the green solution button and mark it as solution so it can help others with the same problem.

Same problem here.  Started about a week ago as well.  It now takes a lot of persistence to join a game.  Sometimes closing Origina and the battlelog/browser and starting from scratch works, and sometimes it doens't.

Also, getting error that could not communicate with BF4, please close with task manager from time to time.  If I ignore it, it will go away within a few seconds and proceed to connect.

This doesn't appear to be a client side issue.

Hey guys, thanks for thesuggestions xxxo77o4906,

I figured out why I had this problem and I feel like a retard now. I forgot that I symlinked some .cas files to a USB to make the game load faster and this whole time, I've been trying to join servers with the USB unplugged so I plugged it back in and it works good now.

So if you are having the same problem where it gets stuck on battlelog and never does anything, it is most likely an issue with corrupt/missing files. If that's the case, I am afraid that repairing/redownloading your bf4 is the only option if you haven't already done so :/ I hope you guys can get yours working. I know it takes a long time to reinstall but it's worth it (if it works lol, i'd be mega pissed if it fixed jackall)

Also if you do decide to reinstall & u are running a 64 bit pc, put it in to "Program files" instead of "Program files (x86)"; I've witnessed a HUGE FPS boost, I used to lag with 15fps now im getting 50 which is alright. Origin wont let you change install directories to "Program Files" but you can bypass that by typing %APPDATA%/Origin in 'run' and editing the "local.xml" file. Simply find the line, <Setting key="DownloadInPlaceDir" type="10" value="C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\"/>  and  get rid of (x86), This will change the install directory to the 64 bit folder and for some reason makes it run better. I am pretty sure it's because I changed the install path to 64 bit version but It MAY be because I redownloaded some new files
