Battlefield 4 keeps crashing on to grey screen (PC)

★★ Novice

Hello there I am quite new here but anyways, I got Battlefield 4 about 2-3 weeks ago and when I finally got to installing it it said it needed a driver update, so I downloaded the NVIDIA software like it said, and now 2-5 minutes of gametime and it crashes to a grey screen I can't do anything about it but just turn off my computer. THIS HAPPENS EVERYTIME and it always crashes my other games. Then when I uninstalled NVIDIA everything was fine but I can't play Battlefield 4 because it requires the updated driver so no matter what I do I can't play Battlefield 4.

It would be appreciated if someone helped me.

Thanks

Hi guendalin187, you shouldn't need to use the latest driver to play the game!

Visit the link to go to the Nvidia driver downoad webpage http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us

Put in your details and then choose a driver (you can choose newwer or older ones and also Beta versions) and when installing make sure to choose 'advanced options' and 'clean install'.

Hi again Standard smile

Heres a link http://systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/requirements/battlefield-4/11804/?p=a

Now this isn't the most accurate website in the world but could you visit it and see what it says about your PC running Bf4.

It should give a general (and again, not especially accurate) pointers on whether your system can cope with Bf4 and at what settings.

Report back with what it suggests, please.

Now if it says you are good to go then its worth doing the following:

-Do a repair install of the game in Origin. In origin right click your game and from drop down choose repair install.

http://answers.ea.com/t5/Battlefield-4/BF4-game-broke/m-p/2268667#U2268667
-Suggestion from eabastien:
Please download the latest physx driver. Go to your custom settings of your video-card software. Nvidia Control Panel > Configure Surround > PhysX > PhysX settings > select your graphics card. Disable all extra options for enhanced graphics and set the preferences for AA and anisotropic to “use application settings”.

-Reinstall DirectX.
1:go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 4\__Installer\directx\redist
2:Find file named DXSETUP.exe and right click on it and choose RUN AS ADMINISTRTOR. Install it. It should update your DirectX install.
3: You might need to reboot computer first.
4: try to launch game.

-Reinstall C++ redistributables.
1:go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 4\__Installer\vc\vc2012Update3\redist
2: Right Click on vcredist_x64.exe and choose RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR then follow onscreen prompts.
Do the same with vcredist_x86.exe and follow onscreen prompts.

-Update your Microsoft .NET framework.

Do you think I could have a link because I looked it up in 'Google' and there are so many websites to download it off, I don't want to take my chances and download the wrong one or download a virus or something.

Would be apreciated thx

NVM found the link

I finally found the error, it says that Display driver NVIDIA windows Kernal Mode driver, Version 335.23 stopped responding and has successfully recoverd... but it doesn't 'recover' just goes to grey screen as usual. I've done everything recommended, so yeah.... Hope that helped!
