So, I got into game, running around with a nice frame rate.

Bumped settings up to ultra. still ran. didn't really look ultra though...

Closed the game.

Opened the game.

DirectX error.

I think it's because it's trying to load DX11 stuff.

My card is DX10, GTX260.

Reeeeally need some way to change the settings from outside the game.

I looked up that file someone mentioned earlier but it was too much of a mess for me to work out.

Whups! Opened the wrong file.

I'll report back after tweaking.

Update:

Rather than tweak it, I deleted the file.  BF4 made a new one with all the default.

So, for you guys, I set everything to Low or Off and quit out.

Here's those settings for you.

NOTE!!!!!!!

Change the resolution(ResolutionHeight, ResolutionWidth) and refresh rate(FullscreenRefreshRate) to what matches your monitor!!!

Hey guys,

I think I got the same problem like you. Everytime I clicked on "video Settings" the game crashed and it said :"APPCRASH bf4.exe".  I couldn ´t change the videosettings ingame and even reinstall bf 4, graphic drivers or any other **bleep** you could just imagine didn ´t help. Anyway I found a solution for my problem.

Open the "PROFSAVE_profil" file with texteditor in  /documents/Battlefield4/settings.

After this delete all the stuff inside this and click "save"

If you now start the game, it sets the values new and after this i could change my videosettings ingame again.

So if anybody else got this problem that his game crashes if he selects "video settings". This might help.

I would personally keep my settings on a stable setting, just to save myself the hassle. Find a preset that is just above or below what you think is good then re-create the settings in Custom preset.  Then fine-tune your settings. E.G: If I wanted smoother texture edges then I'd increase the Anti-aliasing level. This works very well with me :D
