BF4 CPU LAG Spikes in Dual CF - R9-280x Sapphire Dual-x OC Edition 1050/1500mhz stock

★ Novice

Hello,

I've been having huge problems with my CF setup in BF4 since I installed it.

It doesn't matter how hard I try to fix it, it doesn't work, and I've run out of options.

In BF4 when CF is enabled(both cards at stock speeds), I get huge CPU spikes, the GPU line on BF4's graph is normal I believe(ss below), the spike freezes the game for about 1 second and drops my frame rate to 1 or 2fps. It only happens in CF.

In single GPU the game work flawleslly.

Config:

Win7 Ultimate 64bits

i5-3570k @ 4.7ghz

Gigabyte Z77x-D3H

8gb(2x4gb)Patriot Intel Extreme Masters 1600mhz

2x R9-280x Sapphire Dual-X OC Edition 1050/1500mhz

XFX 850w Pro

List of tried fixes:

- Unpark CPU cores

- Reinstall/Revert drivers to every mantle capable driver(14.1 and after)

- Direct3D11/Mantle, both show the same problem

- Lowered specs(ultra-high-medium)

- Disabled Frame Pacing

- Updated MB Bios

- Ran with CPU and MB on stock defaults, 3.4ghz@3.8 turbo

- Disabled/Enabled V-sync and Adaptive V-sync

- Console commands such as frameahead 0,1,2,3 and 4, triblebuffer off, etc...

Thanks in advance for any who tries to help me, I've already lost 2 days trying to figure that out. Also ran out of google attempts on various terms related to that problem. Cya.

I get this same issue on a 2700k @ 5ghz 16GB 2133CL9 on CF 290x  Core unparking utility used unpark, HT on

consistant 120+ fps  not sure as i am using Max Variable FPS 120  except for cpu through the roof spike 0-1 fps every 3-4 seconds randomly.

I did have windows auto update on at the time,  i am shutting it down to see what happens.  doubt it was the culprit unless there have been numourous updates every single damn time I play for a bit

Battlefield 4 can go crazy with spikes, especially if there's overlay programs enabled. I would suggest trying disabling "Origin In Game" and then do a clean boot of your pc http://help.ea.com/en/article/how-to-clean-boot-your-pc/ and see if that helps.

Here are some fixes for FPS drops that have worked for many other users:

1.  Disable origin in game as it's causes lag and FPS problems. To turn off Origin in game log into Origin, in the upper left hand corner click on the word "Origin" in the menu, and then click on "Application Settings".  Next go to the "Origin in game" tab and uncheck the "enable Origin in game" box.

2.  If you have the Raptr game tracking program running kill the process before playing BF4, this solved my random FPS drops even on Dragon's Teeth maps.

3.  If you are using MSI afterburning turn it off as some users report that it isn't playing well with BF4.

4.  For Win8 (I know you're Win7 but others reading may be Win8) users try running BF4 in Win7 compatibility mode.  Right click on bf4.exe, select "Properties", then "Compatibility" and then choose run as Win7.

5. Better Battlelog also causes performance issues so try disabling it and see if that helps if you are running it

6.  Razer Game Booster and Razer Cortex have also been reported as creating playability problems with BF4.  if you have these programs installed disable them before trying to play BF4.

@ragnarok013

Isn't it easier just to do the clean boot I suggested ? Tongue out

Maybe @Carbonic, but I like to find out which items are causing the problem so I can run everything else so I recommend eliminating the usual suspects as the root cause and if they aren't the cause I'll look at other options such as cleanboot.
